INSTALLATION NOTES 4.1 Standard Installation Installation procedures are described in the 'Getting Started Guide' or 'User's Guide' that came with your ORiNOCO product. Please refer to these documents for information about installing and configuring your ORiNOCO product. ORiNOCO User documentation is also available in electronic format on the ORiNOCO Web Site (http://www.orinocowireless.com) You can download the documentation in Adobe's Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). To view or print PDF files you will need the freeware Acrobat Reader that can be downloaded from the Adobe Web Site (http://www.adobe.com/acrobat) 4.2 Upgrading your EC Firmware Image via the Serial Port 1) Connect the EC's serial cable to a PC running MS-DOS or Windows 3.1/95. If you are using Windows, bring up an MS-DOS prompt. 2) With the EC powered off, insert an extended paper clip into the hole between the ethernet port and the serial port of the EC. 3) With the configure button pressed, power on the EC. The Error LED should come on and stay on. 4) Change to the directory you extracted the ZIP file into (the same directory this README file is in). 5) Run the command "WECINST.EXE", and give it the COM port number of the serial port the EC is plugged into. For example, if you used COM2, type "WECINST 2 ECIM0415.RMU" and press Enter. COM ports up to 4 are supported. 6) In a few seconds, you should see the message "Installing bootloader.", followed by "Waiting for FLASH to erase". If either of these messages fail to appear in about 2 or 3 seconds , press ESC to cancel, and try again. After canceling, you will have to re-do steps 2 and 3 to put the EC back into upload mode. 7) After ten seconds, the message "Installing boot sector." will appear, followed by a status bar showing the progress of the install process. This will be followed shortly after by the message "Installing ECIM0415.RMU" which will be followed by its own status bar. If the install aborts, retry this procedure from step 2. 8) When the installation is complete, you will be returned to the command prompt. Go into a terminal emulation software package, such as TELIX, ProComm, or HyperTerminal. Configure this software for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity (8-N-1). 9) Power cycle the EC. It may ask you for its Serial Number, depending on a number of factors. The number is located on the bottom of the EC unit. Type in the number, then press Enter. 10) The EC is now in operating mode, and is ready to use. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS None. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KNOWN ISSUES During the configuration via the Serial Port, one of the names for the modes of operation is wrongly called "ibss". This is the (legacy) "Ad-Hoc Demo" mode. Select "peer" to enable the IEEE 802.11 IBSS mode. =================================================================== END OF FILE
